Training n'stuff

Cyril rubbed his chin thoughtfully. He had hoped to hold out on teaching this one for awhile yet. "This move holds a special place in my heart." Cyril said slowly. "It is unique out of all the techniques in this universe. If I teach you this, you cannot teach it to another."

Makoto nodded. "Understood."

"Alright." Cyril almost regretted teaching it, but it would have happened eventually. "To perform this move one must truly understand the dimensions beyond our sight in this universe." Cyril began. Cyril raised his hand a small ball of ki flickered into existence. "And how to penetrate the veil between what we see and what we cannot."

Makoto nodded. "I understand that." Makoto materialized his own ball, this one a black orb that gave off a purple light.

"Observe very carefully." Cyril instructed him. He launched the ball of ki into the air and it disappeared from view. Moments later beams of ki slammed into earth around them. Each beam of ki was equivalent to the ball he had thrown. "Did you see?"

Makoto watched closely, memorizing the exact movements and power flows that Cyril had used. "Let me try." He threw his ball up in the air. Moments later black lightning struck the ground around them. "Ehhh...not exactly."

"You see, your pillars split the ki from the ball." Cyril explained. "But the ki ball isn't made to attack."

Makoto nodded. "let me try again." He formed another ball and flung it into the air. A few seconds later destructive pillars of ki came down from the sky. "How was that?"

"Eeh, let me elucidate." Cyril made another ball of ki. "This ball of ki is meant to pierce through the veil and attract ki equal to it. Then, normally, the ki ball floats off somewhere else and the beams slam into the dimensions most people can see. Try once more."

Makoto, now grasping what he had been told. He threw the ball up in the air, concentrating until it pierced through to another dimension. In its place came the ki that slammed into the ground.

"Excellent, it's easy to call that ki once you understand what's happening." Cyril said. "The hard bit is getting it to land where you want it to... Go ahead and try to hit me with one."

Makoto threw another ball of ki up. A pillar came down aimed directly at Cyril.

The pillar came down a few feet away from Cyril. "Close. Try again."

Makoto decided to try something different. He threw up two balls and used them both to position the beam directly above Cyril. He then fired again.

"A step backward!" Cyril announced as the beams went all over the place. "Where the ball(s) enter the higher dimensions doesn't matter. When you throw that ball, hold my location in your mind and the pillars will fall where you need them to fall."

Makoto did exactly that.

Cyril blocked the pillar of ki that came down right on top of him. "Good job. Now, there's just one more detail to work out."

Makoto tilted his head. "What would that be?"

"Concentrating the attack. If there are only two targets, the pillars double in strength." Cyril explained, "I want you to hit me with your best shot, but combine the pillars to form only one. It's tricky but I think you can manage it."

Makoto nodded. He closed his eyes and concentrated. He threw the ball up into the air. His will combined the pillars and directed them through the one opening, combining into one giant beam.

Cyril again blocked the attack. "Good job! I think you got this one down."

Makoto smiled. "Thanks. Now it's my turn to be the teacher."

Cyril inclined his head. "Alright."

Makoto looked at Cyril. "The most important part about this is ki control. You have to accurately control dozens of different ki entities in unison in order for it to work."

Cyril nodded in rapt attention.
