Space Oddity

Rick cursed loudly upon exiting the TARDIS, "Dammit all! Fucking tin can." The TARDIS wheezed and dematerialized. "No, I didn't mean it!" He groaned. This was becoming to frequent. Rick walked towards the nearest city, unaware of the fate that would soon befall Vegeta. The moon would be full soon. He decided to find Cyril. Chances were he was around here.

Cyril was indeed on Vegeta at the time. It was a mostly political visit, but he had always wanted to see Vegeta on the night of a full moon. "...Rick? Rick what are you doing here? Don't you know what today is!?"

Rick blinked, thinking it over, "Oh! It's February!"

Cyril pinched the bridge of his nose, "No, of course you wouldn't know the moon cycles here. Today is the full moon, Rick!"

Ryuzaki blinked, "So? What, are there werewolves about?" He laughed. "Where even am I? Mars?"

Cyril sighed at Rick's ignorance. "You're on Vegeta, boy. Home planet of the Saiyans. And in case you didn't know," Cyril added, "Saiyans turn into giant rampaging monkeys when there is a full moon."

Rick frowned, "Bli-mey." He sighed, "Well, I'm stuck. Darned TARDIS is a bit touchy. I accidently get some chip grease on a lever, and she kicks me out the door. I really dunno how Artik dealt with this." He sighed, "Well. Any sights to see on Fajita?"

"Vegeta." Cyril corrected him with a laugh. "Well, there are the apes to look forward to. I think. I still haven't figured out what the deal is with regular Saiyans having tails. We'll have to ask someone." Cyril thought for a moment. Vegeta was mostly desert plains and wastelands. The cities weren't much on grand architecture either. "I suppose there's the Vegetian Palace as well."

Rick found a flier on a building, which he read aloud, " 'All Saiyans, Vegetian to Earthling, to Roman, to Elysian, are invited to the Grand Festival of Saiyan Brotherhood and Heritage Carnival, on 1 Feb, 576AZ' Huh. That's today. And they use the English dating standards," Ryuzaki was quite excited by that, " 'It'll have rides! And friendly brawls! And caramel apples,' I love a caramel apple. Who doesn't? 'All the cultures of the most famous of the Saiyan's adopted homeworlds will be represented during the World Fair.' Then it has a list, 'Earth Saiyans, Roman Saiyans, Elysian Saiyans, Heavenly Saiyans, Uberian Saiyans, etc.' I didn't know Heaven had Saiyans. Huh."

Cyril looked vaguely worried. "Hmm. You know I can't quite put my finger on it but... ah nevermind." Cyril brushed away the nagging in the back of his head. "I haven't had any simple fun like this in ages! It's all been strange worlds and constant near-death experiences. I'm sure this will be great."

Rick nodded, "It sounds like fun. I can't wait to see how they represent Earth." He glanced at flier, "Capital City. Does it have a name?" Rick noticed how, to the left of 'Capital City' was several crossed out names, 'Nappa Valley, Masyaf Village, Constantinople, finally, Fuck. Just call it Vegeta City.' Rick shrugged, "Guess it's Vegeta City."

"Not the most creative lot, Saiyan nobles." remarked Cyril. "Masyaf Village sounds familiar... and wasn't Constantinople an Earth center of trade?"

Rick nodded, "And wasn't it once called Nova R--- Oh. Right. Isn't Artik the Saiyan king? That would make sense."

"Ah, yes. That does make sense. Well, come on then." Cyril began walking "This is Vegeta City, so let's see if we can find some sign of the celebrations."

Rick heard a large explosion and ducked. Debris scattered across the whole city, except, "...Confetti? Confetti cannons?"

"It would appear so." Cyril muttered. "I guess that means we're in the right place eh?"

Rick set out in search of caramel apples. He found them, and then realized that it was actually pretty cool outside, "You know what'd," he ate some apple, "be great? Hot chocolate." He set about the bustling fairgrounds, pausing occasionally to stare in awe at some of the differently dressed Saiyans--- some in Roman armour, some in robes, some in Vegetian armour, and several in normal, Earth clothes. He found a small line outside of a stall, and asked for hot chocolate. To his surprise, they actually had the hot Earth beverage, however, it'd be an hour's wait. "What," Rick laughed, "Do you have to fly it in from Earth?"

The female Saiyan blinked, "Yes. Why?"

Rick abandoned that and found a tea vendor. He began noticing that lizardmen were present. He screeched at them. "What the hell?" Several cat-earred, tailed people talking to Humans and Seraphim passed by. He pulled out the flier, which said at the bottom, 'Friendly races welcome!'

Cyril had disappeared for a moment after the female Saiyan had told them hot chocolate would be ready in an hour. He approached Ryuzaki as he screeched at random passerby with a up of hot chocolate, fresh from Earth. "Time machines are the best." Cyril smiled as he held tight to the warm cup. Some nagging worry was at the back of his head, "You know, I have this feeling something awful is going to happen." Cyril looked around warily, noticing that the Saiyans had tails but not really acknowledging it as he was used to Saiyans having tails and thought nothing of it. "Oh wait no." Cyril stopped, "Off worlders and royalty can have tails. I sure hope everyone here tonight can control themselves...."

Artik took the cup of hot chocolate, "Ah. That's good. I love a festival! And caramel apples!"

Rick made a whining noise as his most-anticipated beverage was consumed by the Monkey King.

Artik patted Cyril on the back. "Well, I'd better get back to kinging. We're going to have fireworks," he said excitedly as he walked off.

Rick sighed, "Nice sunset, at least."

Welp, time for the moment of reckoning, Cyril thought as he saw the sun begin to set. He finished off his hot chocolate and disposed of it and also waved to Artik as he stole Rick's drink.

Rick handed Ryuzaki a new cup and he squealed with delight. Rick left without a word while Ryuzaki drank his hot chocolate. "Jesus, the sun is slow."

"Well really it's not the sun that's moving." Cyril corrected Rick annoyingly.

Rick blinked, "No. Really. Look." The sun began doing flips. But slowly.

Cyril ignored this and made it not-canon.

Rick watched the sun go down. "There we go." He blinked. "Where's the moon?"
